Post #11: Cusco - Day off and night on the town before jungle escapade

February 1, 2011
Arrive Cusco, overnight

Day off to sightsee and shop in Cusco

After the train ride an Andean Adventure guide met us and we were driven back to our Taypikala Hotel where we retrieved the luggage we'd stored there while away in Aguas Caliente/Machu Picchu.  Nice arrangement.  Travel light whenever possible.  Hotels provide this service frequently in their storage rooms.  Of course, we lock our bags using combination locks.  The silver suitcase we had on this trip was a new style with a built-in combination lock right on the side!

The next day/night we goofed off.  Shopped.  It rained a bit.  Ate.  Shopped some more.  Visited the underground museum beneath the lawn in front of the cathedral.

Museum is below.

Museum has mummies, gold artifacts found at the site, old pottery.

Now for some sights around town.  Captions tell you what they are.

Coffee roasting in Cafe de Perla.
Hoyt LOVES roasting coffee at home - rather I love the roasted coffee he prepares, grinds and brews fresh.
Yes, I'm spoiled.  We bought some Peruvian blend here.

My tour guide, Hoyt Edge, gets to relax.  New sweater, new drink: Pisco sour.

Goodbye to Cusco - we enjoyed our stay.

Travel tip:  Keep that oxygen canister handy and don't be embarrassed to use it.  It's more embarrassing to pass out on the street from HAS or worse yet, throw up in public.

Next post:  Jungle Jane and George of the Jungle arrive in Puerto Maldonado and take 2 hr. river ride to eco-lodge where they run away and join a troupe of monkeys.
